Artist Bio

Srinjoy

Drawing from his own cultural heritage, American artist Srinjoy has created an exciting and accessible contemporary language that amalgamates a wide range of street art techniques, from spray painting to graffiti.

His witty yet thought-provoking portraits provide a fascinating social commentary on modern life, challenging our concept of celebrity by placing familiar faces in humorous alternative realities. Srinjoy is intrigued by the theme of ‘Utopia’—an imagined society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens—and his work explores the tension between this imagined ideal and the impossibility of achieving it.

His influences range from internet meme culture, vintage Bollywood billboards, Dada collages, and visual sampling in Street Art/Graffiti to ecology and identity politics. His work sometimes serves as a mirror reflecting the contemporary experience, while at other times it acts as a portal to an alternative world.

Srinjoy was shortlisted for the 2017 Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series Award.

“The internet and digital image-making technologies have completely changed the production and dissemination of art objects. The 21st century is an exciting place for an artist willing to embrace new technology and combine it with traditional processes.” Srinjoy
