Artist Bio
Nino Jokhadze graduated from Batumi Art College in 1984 and Tbilisi Art Academy with honors in 1994. Gocha Jokhadze graduated from the University of the Arts in 1994.
Gocha and Nino Jokhadze are renowned for their unique postmodern style, which blends elements of impressionism, expressionism, cubism, constructivism, and realism. Their paintings are characterized by intricate linear facial expressions and stunning graphical asymmetry, capturing the individuality of their subjects. Their work invites viewers into a deep psychological and emotional journey, revealing novel details upon closer inspection.
Their art is not confined to any single artistic movement, instead synthesizing multiple styles to create a distinctive visual language. They are adept at incorporating realistic characterization within their abstract compositions, enhancing the viewer’s emotional response. The Jokhadze’s work is a meditation in itself, drawing viewers into a contemplative state.
Gocha and Nino’s contributions to the art world have been recognized with numerous accolades, including being a real member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and receiving the Kota Marjanishvili award. Their family’s tragic history as victims of Nazi Germany and Bolshevik Russia deeply influences their art. Gocha’s grandmother, Sofia Mikhailovna Gertsmann, went missing during these turbulent times, with only her suitcase returning from a Belarusian ghetto, a cherished relic that the family preserves.
The couple has seven children and three grandchildren, and their personal history and close relationships often reflect in their work. Their art has gained international acclaim, with exhibitions in prestigious venues worldwide since their first show in Tbilisi in 1996.
